About the event
📚🍺 Profs and Pints Baltimore Presents: “The Dark Side of Fairy-Tale Romance”
Join us for an eye-opening evening with Linda Lee, lecturer in folklore and fairy tales at the University of Pennsylvania, as she explores the unsettling truths behind the “happily ever after” stories we’ve grown up loving.
From movies and TV to weddings and Valentine’s Day, fairy-tale romance is everywhere. But the original stories often reveal themes of control, sacrifice, and danger that modern culture tends to overlook.
Through famous tales like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty, Linda Lee will uncover how these stories reflect darker realities involving power, consent, and social pressure.
Guests will leave with a deeper understanding of fairy tales—and a new perspective on the idea of “perfect” romance.
